Communications Officer (Design)

The Communications Officer (Design) will be part of the Communication and Policy Engagement (CPE) team and will be responsible for developing impactful visual communication materials. The candidate should have a strong grasp of digital and print design, along with an understanding of digital communication channels (including social media), their content formats, and how to strategically leverage them to create engaging outputs.


Responsibilities


  • Engage with internal research teams to understand design requirements and discuss creative ideas and approaches.
  • Interpret briefs and develop appropriate design concepts and strategies for a range of communication materials.
  • Design layouts for research reports, brochures, presentations, web pages, and posters.
  • Translate complex or scientific data into clear and visually engaging infographics for publications such as reports and policy briefs.
  • Conceptualise and design outputs for social media campaigns and digital outreach.
  • Develop creatives for events, including banners, standees, posters, and brochures.
  • Research and stay updated on design trends, tools, and technologies to enhance output quality.
  • Ensure consistency in all design outputs, maintaining alignment with the organisation’s branding and visual identity guidelines.



Qualifications


Bachelor’s or Master's degree in visual communication, graphic design, or a related field.


Skill Set


  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of online tools such as Figma, Canva, Mailerlite, and Miro. 
  • Sketching skills in various mediums (pencil, water colour, dry pastels, colour pencils, etc.).
  • An eye for detail with regard to layout, colour, fonts, and printing techniques.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines

Communications Officer (Editing)

We are looking for an editor who will work closely with researchers, communication specialists, and designers within the Communication and Policy Engagement (CPE) team to ensure that high-quality research outputs are developed and published efficiently.


Responsibilities


  • Edit and manage research outputs in collaboration with team members, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with organisational goals.
  • Ensure that all editorial focus areas are addressed accurately, logically, comprehensively, and in a timely manner, while maintaining adherence to ethical standards, editorial integrity, and organisational policies.
  • Support researchers in producing meaningful, high-quality content that resonates with both the organisation’s objectives and its target audiences.


Qualifications


Graduate or postgraduate degree in English or any STEM-related field

  • Strong understanding of editorial principles and best practices
  • Skilled in structuring and shaping content for clarity and impact
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with multiple style guides
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
  • Multimedia, digital storytelling, social media, and SEO skills are an added advantage
